Thirty-Five Milliseconds is based on the difference between how long the human brain takes to recognise a face as compared to an image of a face (35ms). The works in the show will all entail an initial miss-reading of things, assumptions or gaps in time/understanding or reflect on the act of viewing.

Elizabeth McAlpine's video work with a self explanatory title: 'The Film Footage missed by a viewer though blinking while watching the feature film "Don't look now"' dashes through the original 1973 thriller recreating the film from the moments missed whilst watching.

Susan Collis creates delicate and finely crafted works that at first (and often second) glance look like the detritus left in a gallery setting but on closer inspection reveal themselves to be raw-plugs, remains of stud-walling or in this case staples left in a wall that have been hand made from rare woods, minerals, gems or metals.

Penny Davis’ work ‘Gordon Brown Guardian Interview 20/05/2009’ is a hacked newspaper image of the former Prime Minister, the original face and features are hardly visible after being sanded and then threaded through with coloured cotton in a pattern taken from her child’s abacus. The juxtaposition of opposites, which can be contradictory and imbalanced, is a reversal of expectations without resolution.

Joseph Walsh's film: 'Rise of Treble Ode to Bass' is an exploration of the metamorphosis of music where now multiple mobile phones compete for airtime in public space and half of the music (Bass) is never heard.(Originally commissioned for Beaconsfield Gallery, London)

ABC is back! We have some exciting new venues to crawl to as we celebrate the best of local talent and a fresh new sprouting of grass roots.

5:00 - 7:30pm
A begins at LCB Depot in conjunction with: 'I will talk with anyone who will talk with me'. With exhibition, music, performances and an opportunity to browse the ABC boutique market.

7:00 - 10:30pm
Venue B is with our usual ABC partner, Phoenix Square, where we will be joining forces with the Leicester Fringe Festival for an amazing line-up of live music to launch this year's Fringe Festival.

10:00pm - 1:00am
The official after-party is at venue C, The Great Central (Gallery & Studios), Leicester's best kept secret contemporary art gallery! Featuring special guests performing an exclusive live set and an exhibition curated especially for ABC, Thirty-Five Milliseconds. There will probably also be DJ's in silly costumes as usual.
